Forgot to enter a Bybit referral code — can I add it later?

If you forgot to enter a Bybit referral code at signup, you cannot add it to your existing account. Bybit locks the Referral ID field at registration and customer support cannot override this. The only workaround is opening a new Bybit account with new KYC, which is restricted in most regions. Other discounts (VIP volume tiers) remain available without the referral code.

Why Bybit cannot add a referral code retroactively

Bybit’s Referral Pro program records the referrer-referee link at the moment of account creation. The relationship is stored in the trading account database and is referenced for every fee calculation. There is no admin tool — even on the Bybit side — to modify this link after the account is created.

This matches how Binance, OKX, and most major exchanges run their referral programs. The lock prevents fraud where users would create accounts organically, then claim commission after the fact.

What discounts are still available without a referral code?

Without a Bybit referral code, you still have access to: VIP tier fee reductions (volume-based, automatic), maker order fee advantages on the order book, occasional promo codes from Bybit Rewards Hub, and BTC/USDT zero-fee trading promotions on selected pairs. The lifetime referral rebate, however, is not retroactively claimable.

VIP 1 starts at relatively low thresholds — typically reachable within a month for active traders. Combined with limit orders, it partially offsets the missing referral discount.

Can I open a second Bybit account with a referral code?

Bybit restricts one account per person. Creating a second account with the same identity, ID document, or phone triggers Bybit’s duplicate-account detection. Both accounts can be suspended. Legitimate exceptions exist (corporate accounts, certain regional second-account allowances) but are not the rule.

If your original Bybit account is dormant and you genuinely need a fresh start, you can request account closure via Bybit support, then re-register weeks later with PCNVIP in the Referral ID field. This is a long path with no guarantee.

Related questions

How quickly does the Bybit referral lock close?

Immediately after the registration form is submitted. There is no grace period.

Does the lock apply to derivatives sub-accounts too?

Yes. Sub-accounts inherit the main account referral settings, with no separate referral entry.

Can I transfer my referral code to a friend?

No. Referral codes are tied to the issuing account holder and cannot be reassigned.

Bottom line

Bybit referral codes cannot be added after signup. For future accounts (where regionally allowed), pre-fill PCNVIP in the Referral ID field to lock in the lifetime fee discount from registration.
