Which One Should You Pick?
Pick Binance if…
you trade frequently outside the EU and US, where the spot fee gap of roughly 4x to 8x compounds quickly.
Pick Kraken if…
you are in the EU or US, want the broadest staking range, or value tier qualification based on assets held rather than volume traded.
Kraken raised its base spot fees on 9 July 2026 to 0.40% maker and 0.80% taker — a change most comparison pages still have not reflected, and one that makes it four to eight times more expensive than Binance per spot trade. On futures the two are identical at 0.02%/0.05%. What Kraken buys you is access and breadth: an Irish MiCA licence covering the EU, CFTC-regulated perpetuals for US traders, 30+ staking assets, and a fee tier you can qualify for by assets held rather than volume traded. Binance is the cheaper venue for anyone whose jurisdiction still permits it.
Kraken’s 0.40%/0.80% base tier is unusually high and was verified against Kraken’s own fee schedule and support documentation in August 2026 — many third-party pages still quote the older 0.25%/0.40%. All figures are base-tier and fall with volume.
